Many River of the Year (ROY) Partners throughout the watershed are organizing or participating in events that will include recognition of the Delaware as PA’s River of the Year 2011. APRIL 2011
Saturday April 23, 2011 – Pocono Environmental Education Center
Earth Day Celebration

the Delaware River Sojourn, and what’s happening in the DWGNRA.
Saturday, April 30, 2011 – Lambertville Shad Festival
Visit the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) under the Lewis Shad Fishery tent off Lambert Lane to learn about the relationship between American
shad fishing and the river’s water quality.

Project River Bright Delaware River Cleanup - This year’s cleanup will cover several river miles from Easton, Pa. to Frenchtown, N.J.

Volunteers to provide boats, event organizers will determine shuttles and provide cleanup materials and water and lunch.

Saturday, June 11 – NPS UPDE’s 3rd Annual High School Paddle and River Clean-Up
Open to all Upper Delaware area high school students; limited to first 20 registrants
Meet at Zane Grey Museum, Lackawaxen, Pa. at 9 a.m.
To register, please call Park Ranger Nathan Powell by Thursday, June 9 at (570) 685-4871. NPS will provide shuttles, canoes, paddles, and PFDs.

Sunday, October 2 – IronMan 70.3 Pocono Mountains Triathlon
Race begins at 7 a.m.; additional activities include a multi-sport expo and other interactive events.
This is the first IronMan event in Pa. and will take place within and around the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, including a 1.2 mile swim in the Delaware River from Smithfield Beach, a 56 mile bike ride through Cherry Valley, and finishing with a 13.1 mile race in historic Stroudsburg.
Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau is the lead event sponsor.
