2012 Delaware River Sojourn
Sunday, June 24 - Saturday, June 30, 2012: Adventures on the Delaware.
Each year, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers (POWR) choose a Commonwealth river to be named the River of the Year (ROY). This honor, bestowed annually since 1983, helps raise awareness about the importance of rivers, their conservation needs, and their recreational and economic impact on watershed communities.
In the fall of 2010, DCNR and POWR put out a call for local groups to nominate a river. Several groups working in the
Delaware River Basin nominated the Delaware and decided to partner on this effort.
The Delaware River was chosen as one of the six finalists, which went head to head in a public vote during December 2010. Voting ended January 3, 2011, after which the Delaware River was officially named PA’s River of the Year 2011!
The River of the Year (ROY) Steering Committee would like to thank Vicki Dodson, graphic designer and sojourn participant, for creating our new ROY (and Sojourn) logos.
